ESSENTIAL ALPACA EQUIPMENT
You can run your farm with minimal alpaca equipment and still have a great farm. The supplies you will need will be based on the size of your farm and what is important to you. Each farm must decide what works for them and their area.
ALPACA SUPPLIES
We purchase our supplies from the useful-items.com website. Bruce has always been wonderful at answering our questions. The products have been quality. We get all our halters, buckets, etc. from here...and we are not an affiliate. We don't make any money by recommending them. We just like them a lot.
FEEDERS
We built our alpaca feeders. We put a roof on one to keep the hay from getting wet during winter months.

The other feeder is under a three sided loafing shed.

We put a grate on top of our feeders to hold the hay down.
The chest area of our alpacas get matted. If you use this area of fleece then this feeder won't work for your farm.

You can take a large tire and attach plywood to one side of it to cover the hole. The plywood side of the tire sits on the ground, fill it with hay, and the alpacas can eat out of it.
We also have bins for them to eat grains or minerals out of that hang off the side of the feeders we built. They cost around $9.00 to $10.00 each. We have one for each alpaca and one or two extra for the greedy ones so they will let the others eat in peace.

FARM EQUIPMENT
You will need something to scoop poop. We use a flat end shovel and have an ATV with a wagon. But a wheelbarrow works if you can't afford an ATV.
We have a tractor for general farm work. It is very old but runs great. It cost $2500 and does everything we need it to do for our small five acre farm.
A major piece of alpaca equipment is a trailer for transporting alpacas.
Other alpaca equipment used on our farm are stock tanks and five gallon buckets for water. The small plastic buckets have heating elements in them for winter and will cost you around $40.00 each. We have used them for 5 years without any problems and they are easy to clean.
We use a rope to herd the animals. We attach the rope to the catch pen and herd the animals towards the pen. When they are close enough we pick up the rope, coral the alpacas, and herd them into the pen. With a small herd this works fine.
The alpaca equipment we use is pretty minimal but gets the job of caring for our alpacas done. Each alpaca farm has to judge what is important to them and what their budget can handle.
