Alpacas - Miscellaneous Information
This page was created to add information about Alpacas that we weren't able to fit on other pages or is general farm or animal care information that applies to camelids.
When you own an alpaca farm you will come across lots of interesting information. You are working with what is still considered an exotic animal and sometimes we have to learn by experimentation or by what works on other animals.
We will try to cover more holistic/organic care of these incredible animals. We have turned towards less chemicals in ours and our animals lives and as we try new things with our alpacas, we will pass on what we learn through our farm and other farms more natural raising of camelids. If something works, we'll let you know. If it doesn't work, well tell you about that, too.
Do you have an alpaca that is not eating? It is important to keep your aanimals digestive system working. Read about a natural way to repopulate the microbes in the alpaca stomach without probiotics by using
transfaunation.
We have recently become more informed about probiotics. Here are some benefits of probiotics:
- Natural resistance against diseases in the GI tract
- enhanced resistance against viruses
- resistance to diarrhea
- improved resistance to stress of all kinds
- overall improved quality of life and longevity

Do you live in rattlesnake country like we do? Find out what to do if one of your farm animals should receive a
rattlesnake bite.
Is your alpaca going bald?
Alpaca hair loss
can be a simple or complex problem. You can treat it yourself or you may have to involve the vet. The reasons for an alpaca's balding is varied. Most problems are not life threatening but can be ugly to view.
Alpacas are a hardy animal and fun to raise. Check this page often to see what different new things we have come across to help raise happy, healthy livestock.
