Alpaca Bucket List

We were wondering one day what an Alpaca would have on it's bucket list. In case you haven't heard of this, it's a list of things you want to do before you die.

We've owned alpacas since 2000 and feel we have a pretty good handle on what alpacas need. Their needs are basic. Food, water, shelter, reproduction, and companions. It's their wants that are subject to being misunderstood by owners.

We've seen a mother grieve for her dead cria. One alpaca may love apples and another not. Some alpacas are less nervous than others. So, we know they have individual personalities along with their herd instincts. This leads us to believe that alpacas may have a little deeper thought process than we sometimes give them credit for. Therefore, we began to concentrate a little more on the life of an alpaca.

What would an alpaca have for his/her life ambitions? So we put a lot of thought into what our camelid friends would like to accomplish before they pass on and came up with a checklist of activities.

Our little fiber producers have acheived some of these goals. Some objectives will be a little harder to obtain. Here is the bucket list:

☑ Do something stupid - done...several times

☑ Spit on livestock guard dogs head - done (heehee)

◻ Take an etiquette class to refine my manners

☑ Release negative emotions - did this during feeding time with fellow herdmates

◻ Tie my owners to a chair and cut their hair

◻ Hum "I'm so pretty" after being sheared and have it video taped

◻ Have my video go viral

☑ Dance hip-hop while my owners are trying to trim my toenails - did my own freestyle

☑ Move the community dung pile for no reason - done and will do it again some day

◻ Chew cud and be happy - working on this every day

◻ Fart and act like the guard dog did it - and you thought only human males found this funny

☑ Alert on a bird - It looked scary so I did it

☑ Alert on a coyote - It was scary and the sound just rushed out of me

☑ Play king of the hill - ok, it was a mound of dirt but, in an alpaca pasture it counts.

◻ Visit Machu Picchu

◻ Get elected to a political office - I don't think my crap stinks either and jobs will be created cleaning up after me.

So that's our alpaca bucket list. Kind of short right now. We'll add more as our alpacas remind us of things they have or would like to complete in their lifetime.
