Felt Celtic Knot Bracelet Instructions

A celtic knot bracelet is rather mysterious because the knots appear to be endless. In this lesson we will show you how to make a knot bracelet with felted wires. You will be able to dazzle your friends with your mystic ability to make an endless bracelet.

MATERIALS

  • 20 gauge felted craft wires

  • Pliers

  • wire cutter

  • 36 or 38 gauge triangle Felting needle

  • Foam pad

First you must make two felted wires. You can make them the same color or you can make the different colors as we have done. Make the wires 22-23 inches long to give yourself plenty of wire to work with.

Bend each of the wires at the middle of the wire. Next you will begin to weave the wires. Start by Laying the inside leg of the left wire over the inside leg of the right wire as shown in the photo below:

start to weave wires

Take the outside leg of the left wire and the inside leg of the right wire and cross them over the inside wire of the left wire and the outside wire of the right wire as in the picture below.

Next you must cross the left wires over the right wires and the right wires should pass under the left wires.

The wires on the right will always pass under the wires on the left. Continue weaving by passing the wires over and under in this same manner until you get to the end of your wires.

Now comes the tricky part. You will need to close the open end of the wires. This makes one continuous interlocked bracelet.

CLOSING THE WIRES

Figure out about where you want your wires to connect and use wire cutters to snip an inch or two away from this area. You are just trimming the ends so you don’t have as much wire to wrap. You may have to cut the felt away with a scissors. You should be working on just one of the wires. I started with the blue wire.

Next, you will need to expose the wires. You can do this by trimming away some of the felt but be sure to leave more than you think you will need to cover the joined area. Push the felt back on the wire to expose the wires even more.

Twist the wires around each other.

Your wires should be firmly wrapped around each other. Make sure that all jagged edges of the wire are crimped down so that no sharp edges will protrude from your felt.

At this point you will need to get your foam pad and felting needle out. Take this wire wrapped end and lay it onto the foam pad. Pull the felt (that you pushed back to expose the wires) back over the wrapped wire. Carefully begin needle felting the fiber around the wire to re-felt the fibers and cover the exposed wires that you wrapped.

You should have a smooth finished end that no one can tell has been joined. Finish the other wire in the same manner. Be sure that the two wires stay linked.

Your bracelet should now look like the above picture. You may stop here and fold the bracelet around your wrist. It will stay in place.

You can embellish it with beads to make your bracelet even more unique.
