CREATING A FANTASY FAIRY WITH ALPACA WOOL

We have been interested in creating a fantasy fairy for some time now.

Our first fairy is still in the creation stage. We have been studying polymer clay fairies and fairy artwork that we see but want to use alpaca wool for our fairies.

Alpaca fleece can be sculpted using the needle felting technique.

Dollmaking by needle felting is a very creative process. With this fairy, we have combined needle felting for the body and used material for her outfit.

We plan on making a tutorial so you can create your own fairy out of animal fiber. As soon as we have achieved our goal, we will make the tutorial available.

We are attempting to achieve a more anatomically correct felt doll. Learning anatomy makes your dolls more lifelike. We are compiling the resources we used to learn how to create better dolls and will pass this information along in our tutorial.

We have not quite acheived perfection in our fantasy fairy. This fairy is larger than we want them to be and plan to start reducing the size. Below are a couple of views in different lighting of the fairy we are working on.

We are going to add eyelashes but are looking around for a technique that we like. We have one that will work but would like to see a couple of other options.

To make our fairy better, we are asking for comments or suggestions. If anyone knows of a great eyelash method for wool, please send it in. Be aware that if it works well, we will pass it on to others. So if it's a secret, don't tell us. If you would like to help others, please submit your suggestion using the form below.

We would love to hear about other methods that would make our fairies more life like. We already have another fairy head made with more lifelike eyes. Our method is not one we have come across, yet. We, also, have other things in the works that will make our fairies special.

Our next fairy will be outfitted using wool. We are trying to create a unique doll from wool.
