3D Sculpture

A 3D sculpture reflects your personality as an artist. It allows you to breathe life into wool. Each character created will be uniquely handmade by you.

You can add other needle felted 3D sculptures to enhance your doll. The fawn looks great with the finished art doll.

Using alpaca wool for your doll making is slightly different than sheeps wool because alpaca is finer. A layering technique seems to work better than the roll technique. You build up layers to make a firmer felted project.

If you choose to use a rolling method to build up your fleece into shapes, be sure and roll alpaca fleece very tightly.

The layering technique works for us. You must find what works for you. Combine different techniques you learn for unique doll making.

This project can be made entirely with a 36 triangle needle, but we suggest you have a 38 triangle and a 38 star on hand. The 38 triangle works well on alpaca fleece for overall felting and the 38 star is good for surface needling.

A wire armature was used in this doll project. Wire armature allows you to pose your character.

This project was started with wet felting. You can dry felt completely if you wish. Wet felting gives a solid foundation to layer onto.
