Felted Crochet Purse with Alpaca Yarn
We have been wanting to do a felted crochet purse and finally got around to it. Here is the pattern we devised to crochet this purse with a ruffle around the top.
We used our own handspun alpaca wool. Approximately 500 yards.
For this purse we used a 5.00mm crochet hook.

Felted Crochet Purse Pattern
Abbreviations =
Ch - chain
sc - single crochet
st - stitch
sl st - slip stitch
Ch 2. Turn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook. Do not turn.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st - 12 sts
Rnd 3: sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat 6 times - 18 sts
Rnd 4: sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat 6 times - 24 sts
Continue increasing by 6 in each round until you have a total of 54 sts.
Next, sc in each st for approximately 13 rounds or until you have the length of purse you want.
For the ruffle, 3 triple crochet in each sc stitch. Finish the round. Weave in all ends.
Make a strap.
Ch 4. Sc until you have the length of strap you want. Hand sew with yarn to the purse where you want the strap to be.
Place the purse in a pillow case. Put the pillow case and a pair of jeans in your washer. Add dishsoap. Wash and check purse periodically for felting and shrinkage. Or you can use hot water and a washboard with dishsoap to hand felt your purse.
When it has felted as much as you want it to, remove it and place it on a three pound shortening can and let dry.

Remove and add a snap if you want your purse to close.

Here is a close up of the purse before felting...

And after felting...

We could have felted it a little more and still might. We like the texture of this felted crochet purse. You should give felting your crochet or knitting a try.
