Are you needle felting faces and just can't seem to master sculpting noses? Does your characters nose just not seem right, but you can't place your finger on what's wrong? We have put together this simple tutorial to help you shape noses.
Whether you want a small nose for your pixie...
Or a large nose for your granny...
You can learn to shape noses and make them more appealing. Remember there are all sizes and shapes of noses. When getting ready to sculpt a nose, take a look in the mirror and study your own nose. This will give you a great insight to nose shape.
To make a wool nose, start with a small roll of fiber and attach it to the forehead. Needle it in place. If you start up at the forehead with a small triangle, you will be able to get the curve going down around the eye socket in place and shaped first. Then add the bulk of the nose. This is just a "roughing in" of the nose so don't worry too much about the shape at this point. You just need to get the bulk of fiber in place.
Next add a small wad of fiber to each side of the nose that will represent the nostrils.
Now you can start shaping a little bit.
Once you start firming the fiber and get a little shape to it, you need to add a small wad of fiber to the tip of the nose.
We've put together a short video tutorial so you can see our technique for sculpting noses in wool.
We hope that you find our technique helpful. Good luck with your needle felting and your alpaca endeavours.
