WOOL FIBER FROM YARN

Need some wool fiber for needle felting but only have some alpaca yarn? Or maybe you spun up some of your alpaca fiber but it didn't turn out how you wanted and it's just been sitting in a closet. Don't just let that yarn go to waste. You can turn your yarn back into fiber easily.

Cut your yarn into short pieces a few inches long. This piece is aproximately 5 inches in length. You could cut it longer or shorter. Just depends on what is comfortable to you.

Lay the yarn across your leg (wear long pants or it will hurt!). Take a dog slicker brush and begin brushing the yarn. You can brush straight or we found that if you use the brush sideways it seems to pull the yarn apart faster.

The yarn will start to become fiber again.

When finished with that piece of yarn, start with another until you have the wool fiber you need for your needle felting project. The fibers will be short but will work just fine for needle felting. Now isn't that a better use of that alpaca yarn that you stuffed away in a closet?
